Securing Your Data

Your data can be secured by using file passwords, or encryption, or hard drive encryption.  Many corporations are now requiring hard drive encryption.  This method requires a password to be correctly entered at power-up of the pc.  This protects your data from theft, but not from on-line threats while your pc is running.  This is because once you enter the correct password, the pc is “unlocked”.

If you have a few confidential files, file encryption is a good option.  Just remember the files can’t be opened without a correct password.  There is no “master” password in case you forget.
